Triplane Turmoil is an awesome game, much like the classic Sopwith (just a lot better). You fly a plane, and you can choose to fly for one of 4 countries: Germany, Finland, England, and Japan. Starting the game: After the intro you'll be taken to the main game window. There are several options, but to get to playing the game as fast as possible, click on 'roster'. If it doesn't show something like this: Pilot name:_ at the top of the main box, click on the pen. If it does (or after you've clicked on the pen) then type in the name for you pilot, and press enter. Then click on the set keys button, to see what your controls are. If you want to change them, press the set keys button and type in your new controls. Learn your controls well. When done, click on the keys. You should be taken back to the main game screen. Click on assign pilots, and it will show you the assign pilots screen. To start, click on the box next to where it says 'solo' in the Germany box (the one with the picture of the red plane in it). This is the shareware version, and it will only let you play solo missions in the German plane. Then click on the border of the screen, and it should take you back to the main game screen. Click on 'take off times' and it will take you into the solo mission selector. The only one available is mission 1, since you're just starting to play. Click on the picture that says 'Mission 1: Coast Islands' on it, and you will be taken into a screen that gives you detailed information about mission 1. Read what it says if you want to, then click on the button that says 'fly'. You are now in the game. Playing the game: When you get into the game, you will see your base and a large window blocking much of the screen, with three vertical bars. This is called the hangar menu. You can adjust the fuel by pushing the power button and then the turn up or turn down buttons, bombs by pressing the bomb button and the pull up or pull down buttons, and shells (ammunition) by pressing the shoot button and then the pull up or pull down buttons. It is best not to adjust them. To get out of the hangar menu, press the roll button. Unless you have messed around with the options, you can hold down the power button to launch. Don't worry about the technician, he is invulnerable. If you launch before he finishes pushing you back, he'll go back into the hangar. Get yourself accustomed with the controls, but stay away from the top of the screen, terrain, and water. Don't use bombs or bullets until you are out of your base, you might kill something of your own. Pretty soon, you will come upon a small island with 1 infantry and an Anti-aircraft emplacement. Bomb the emplacement, trying to hit. Keep in mind that you can not destroy buildings unless you hit the base of the building with a bomb. The best way to insure success bombing the emplacement is by flying very low (but not too low) try and stay away from bullets, especially the red ones. If you run out of bombs, it is a good idea to turn around (usually by turning up quite a bit and then rolling). When you approach your base, make sure to stay very low. When the runway (the gray strip) comes into view, let go of the power button. make sure to hug the ground, but stay pointed straight, parallel to the ground. When you are above the close end of the runway, hold down on the brakes (pull up and pull down at the same time) if you are too high, you will fall and go crunch. If you are moving too fast, you will hit the ground at the far end of the runway and also go crunch. If you are pointed too far up or down then either your tail or your propeller will hit the ground, and you will go--you guessed it--crunch. If you get it right, you will eventually stop. Keep holding down the brakes until you are positive you are completely stopped. When you are, you should let go of the brakes and press the roll button once. The hangar door will open, and the technician will come out and roll your plane back into the hangar. Then it will show you the hangar menu. The rest of the game is up to you! For multiplayer instructions and details on the options and what they do, see the readme file. This has been a commercial game for many years, but is now released as freeware by the company.?
